[EN] The church St Laud destroyed by 2 fires was rebuilt by Henry II Plantagenet in 1104. Fire again, was rebuilt in 1140 by Geoffroy le Bel. At the Revolution, it was partly demolished. New stalls were executed by Corbineau and Coquereau in 1535. The cloisters rebuilt in 1550. The altar of the church was redone from 1769 to 1771. The church destroyed during the Revolution was replaced by the current church of E. Dainville archit., Consecrated by Bishop Freppel in 1876.
Vast neo-Romanesque church, the only existing one on Angers, of one of the main architects Angevins of the 19th century. Architecture perfectly representative of the historicism that prevailed in the 19th century. It suffered the bombings of 1944. The arrow was rebuilt, the scenery simplified, which accuses its present dryness. It is probably worth more because of its dominant position, facing the castle, closing and structuring the wide and rather indefinite space of the places of President Kennedy and the Academy. Its arrow is visible from afar and takes part in the landscape of the city, in the same way as the towers of the castle, the spiers of the cathedral or the Saint-Aubin tower.
It is a neo-roman bell tower with three floors.
