The 3 inch 50 cal. naval gun mount on display is from the decommissioned destroyer HMCS Nipigon, one of 27 destroyers of the Annapolis Class in use by the RCN and CF primarily during the Cold War. She entered service in 1964 and was paid off in 1998.
HMCS Nipigon is now an artificial reef off the coast of Quebec.
The gun mount was dedicated in June of 2000. It is the Navy's contribution to "Monument Row", memorials to the Army Navy and Air Force operations centres that are now part of the Joint Operations Centre.
