This Italianate Villa style house was built in 1874 by G.W. Talhurst on land that was part of Kirkwood's
first subdivision. It was purchased in 1888 by George and Josephine Burr. Mr. Burr was a trustee of the City of Kirkwood from 1894 to 1896 and was instrumental in the installation of the first electric street lights in Kirkwood. The house has an irregular shape with hip roofs and a three-story tower with pagoda-like roof.
