Alongside Minster Abbey stands a small stone building which is now Minster's Gatehouse Museum. The museum is full of history and artifacts found locally going back to Roman and Saxon times. Outside the front of the museum is a single cannon.
The black painted cannon is mounted on a a solid wooden frame with four wooden wheels. It is possible that the cannon came from a ship, or from a land defence at the navel dockyard not far away at Sheerness. The docks are now used for commercial shipping.
