NRHP Nomination Form"The Belton Commercial District also contains several examples of Art Deco and Art Moderne buildings. Art Deco became fashionable in the late 1920s and was applied to a variety of building types, but it is most commonly found on commercial and institutional buildings. Distinctive features include zigzag or chevron moldings, rounded corner windows, and a smooth-textured finish. In small central Texas towns the style is most commonly found on movie theaters, and the Beltonian Theater at 219 East Central Avenue is a very good example, despite some recent changes to the lower facade."
