DESCRIPTION DE L'OEUVRE

Cette œuvre s’inspire de l’esprit du parc comme lieu de rassemblement, de détente et de jeu. Elle attire le regard et invite le passant à prendre une pause : un temps d’arrêt. Ainsi, du haut de ses cinq mètres, Temps d’arrêt devient le contrepoint du kiosque à musique situé dans la partie est du parc Molson. Érigée comme un monolithe, l’œuvre répond à la symétrie de ce parc. Sa verticalité réitère l’aspect majestueux et imperturbable des nombreux arbres matures qui habitent ce territoire. D’un côté, le choix de matériaux industriels (acier Corten et aluminium) ainsi que le style tubulaire de la composition sculpturale tranchent radicalement avec la nature environnante. De l’autre, les formes organiques de l’aluminium et la verticalité de la base, qui rappellent respectivement les branches et les troncs d’un arbre, contribuent à l’intégration de l’œuvre au lieu. Par ailleurs, la couleur orangée du Corten, qui se démarque autant de la végétation estivale que de la neige en hiver, crée, à elle seule, un point de repère incontournable.

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

This artwork is inspired by the spirit of the park as a place to gather, relax, and play. It draws the gaze and invites passersby to take a break, to stop for a moment. With its five-metre height, Temps d’arrêt becomes the counterpoint to the bandstand situated in the east part of Parc Molson. Erected as a monolith, the artwork responds to the park’s symmetry. Its verticality reiterates the majestic, imperturbable vision of the many mature trees that inhabit the area. On the one hand, the choice of industrial materials (Corten steel and aluminum) and the tubular style of the sculptural composition offer a radical break with the surrounding natural environment. On the other hand, the organic aluminum shapes and the verticality of the base, which refer, respectively, to the branches and trunk of a tree, contribute to the integration of the work with the site. Furthermore, the orange colour of the Corten steel, which stands out from both summer vegetation and snow in winter, creates an essential reference point.
