"We find mention of the Church of Delettes from 1119. It is dedicated to Saint Maxime whose polychrome wooden statue, made around 1200, was offered by Camille Enlart to the Sandelin Museum of Saint-Omer, where it is still preserved.
The church was half destroyed in 1537 during the wars of Charles V and Francis I. The tower is rebuilt from 1602 until 1620 it seems, dating delivered by two cartridges: the first on the embankment of the turret of stairs, against the north face of the bell tower, the second of Renaissance style marking the last floor, south face of the tower. But at the bottom of the church tower, an inscription (which can be a rework) also tells us:
"Lan millet six hundred and seventeen
From iung the first day
Put the first plate
From the foundation of this tower "
During the Revolution, the church and its property are sold. She returned to the Concordat cult of 1801, completely dilapidated. It was only at the end of the nineteenth century that the church was renovated to even change its physiognomy. A new sacristy was built in 1860.
Then the church being considered too small at a time of demographic apogee, too low and not solid, a great reconstruction is undertaken between 1873 and 1874. The new church of Delettes is blessed in 1875.
Major restoration works were still carried out in 1893. It was at this time that the church was disoriented. The interior is completely altered with, mainly, the demolition of the old choir and the old sacristy which was attached to it (street side), the construction of a new choir and a new sacristy to the west , the closing of the old entrance door and the installation of a gate with double doors. It is to this day one of the rare religious buildings which is disoriented: its chorus is in the west, completely derogating with the liturgical rule.
The electrification of the church is effective in April 1956, and the heating was installed in 1963.
The church is closed again to worship in 1995 because of restoration. Several times, sections of the vault had collapsed, victims of the merule. The tower, the balustrade and the cornices, the mechanism of the bell, the clock, the ceiling of the nave required a large building site. The inauguration was held in June 1997, marking the reopening of the building to worship. "

L'église fut à demi détruite en 1537 durant les guerres de Charles Quint et François Ier. La tour est reconstruite à partir de 1602 jusque 1620 semble-t-il, datation livrée par deux cartouches : le premier au talus de la tourelle d'escalier, contre la face nord du clocher, le second de style Renaissance marquant le dernier étage, face sud de la tour. Mais au bas de la tour de l’église, une inscription (qui peut être un remploi) nous indique aussi :

Fut mise la première assiette

.Lors de la Révolution, l'église et ses biens sont vendus. Elle est rendue au culte au Concordat de 1801, complètement délabrée. C'est seulement à la fin du XIXe siècle que l'église est rénovée jusqu'à changer même de physionomie. Une nouvelle sacristie est construite en 1860.
Puis l'église étant jugée trop petite à une époque d'apogée démographique, trop basse et peu solide, une grande reconstruction est entreprise entre 1873 et 1874. La nouvelle église de Delettes est bénite en 1875.
De gros travaux de restauration sont encore exécutés en 1893. C'est à ce moment que l'église est désorientée. L'intérieur s'en trouve complètement modifié avec, principalement, la démolition du vieux chœur et de l'ancienne sacristie qui lui était accolée (côté rue), la construction d'un nouveau chœur et d'une nouvelle sacristie à l'ouest, la fermeture de l'ancienne porte d'entrée et la mise en place d'un portail avec porte à deux battants. C'est à ce jour un des rares édifices religieux qui soit désorienté : son chœur est à l'ouest, dérogeant totalement avec la règle liturgique.
L'électrification de l'église est effective en avril 1956, et le chauffage monté en 1963.
L’église est de nouveau fermée au culte en 1995 pour cause de restauration. À plusieurs reprises, des pans de la voûte s’étaient effondrés, victimes de la mérule. La tour, la balustrade et les corniches, le mécanisme de la cloche, l’horloge, le plafond de la nef ont nécessité un grand chantier. L'inauguration s'est tenue en juin 1997, marquant la réouverture de l'édifice au culte. "
