This memorial is quite new, replacing an older, simpler memorial which consisted of a grey granite plaque mounted on a large boulder.
The new memorial, erected by the O'Leary branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, consists of a central grey granite and black granite stele flanked by a pair of black granite slabs. The old granite plaque has been mounted at the top of the central stele with the original inscription. Inscribed on the flanking slabs are the insignias of the Canadian Army, Air Force, Navy and Merchant Navy on one side and a view of the sun setting on the grave of a fallen soldier on the other side. On a full height black granite plaque on the back of the memorial is the poem In Flanders Fields.

LEST WE FORGET
1914 - 1918
(The names of 20 who fell in World War I)
1939 - 1945
(The names of 28 who fell in World War II)
"BE YOURS TO HOLD IT HIGH"
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
On the back.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Major JOHN MCCRAE
