In Gloucester, near the Gloucester Maritime Museum, is this sculpture, titled "The Gloucester Compass Rose," dedicated to those who are associated with the ocean.
The sculpture is located on a place of land between the parking lot to the maritime museum and the road.
The sculpture is round, with stone and mortar as the base and glass laid in bronze in the circle. The northerly cardinal point has a pointer. The other three have larger eye-shaped pieces. Other points have small orange pieces. Instead of directions, there are names: "Columbus", "St. Brendan" at the north and south points, resp. Along the edge are dog paw print designs - don't know why this is part of a maritime memorial, but whatever.
Nearby is a stone with a plaque with the following:
"Maritime Gloucester dedicates
The Gloucester Compass Rose
To All Those Who Harvest and Preserve
The Bounty of Our Great Oceans
