Par délibération du 25 Germinal an XII (15 avril 1804), le Conseil Municipal de Niort accorde au Consistoire, qui lui en avait fait la demande, la jouissance gratuite pour y exercer le culte protestant de l'eglise Unie (ex Eglise Réformée), de la portion de l'Église des Cordeliers qui avait fait l’objet d’une donation : le 21 juin 1800, le citoyen Cruvelier, négociant, avait acquis l’ensemble du couvent des Cordeliers, vendu comme bien national. Le 26 octobre 1800, il fit cession gratuite à la commune de Niort (ce qui fut accepté par le citoyen Brisson, maire) du bâtiment de la ci-devant Église des Cordeliers. L’inauguration du temple eut lieu le 14 Fructidor an XIII (1er septembre 1805)
