His full profile at the Virtual Wall (see Website) notes that he was killed outright under fire. He is buried at the back of the cemetery, visible from Rock Church Highway, and his granite headstone has the four star shield of the Americal Division. The text is:

On the reverse of the headstone is the "Follow Me" medallion, featuring a soldier gesturing onward with his right arm while holding a rifle in his left hand. Lieutenant Yates's decorations are then listed:
