Part of the hotel will be destroyed again during the Second World War. Café Jean will now be detached from the Carlton Hotel.
Then follows a restructuring period led by Mr. Grosse, owner of Café Jean with the help of Mr. Franchois.

The transaction would be 3.5 million euros. "A logical price given the reputation of the place and its location," said a real estate professional. The entire staff naturally (it is the law) was taken over by the owner. At the head of Hotel Carlton Investments, Miguel Toulemonde, his young CEO, intends to quickly work to refresh the establishment and its 59 rooms. Meanwhile, the hotel will refuel on the occasion of the Euro football, which begins this Friday.
Ironically, DSK never set foot there
So here is one of the jewels of the hotel Lille left for a new adventure. Shaved during the 1914-18 war, the building had been revived a few years later and a hotel had opened in 1933 under the auspices of the Northern Hospitality Society. In 1951, the company merged with Café Jean and the Carlton was born there.

Le 11 novembre 1918, la Première Guerre mondiale vient de s’achever, laissant derrière elle le « Café Jean » en ruine. Il faudra alors reconstruire cet établissement afin de concrétiser ce projet toujours rêvé : exploiter un hôtel restaurant.
C’est donc en 1920 que la reine d’Angleterre profite de cette occasion pour envoyer une de ses sociétés hôtelières : la société « Carlton » pour s’investir dans ce fonds de commerce, qui à l’époque représente une certaine forme de richesse de par son architecture. L'une des plus belles chambres de cet hôtel, la suite Coupole, située juste sous le dôme de cuivre du bâtiment rappelle la Couronne Britannique.
Une partie de l'hôtel sera à nouveau détruite lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le Café Jean sera désormais détaché de l'hôtel Carlton.
S'ensuit une période de restructuration menée par monsieur Grosse, propriétaire du Café Jean avec l'aide de monsieur Franchois.”

Elle a relaxé tous les prévenus de cette embrouille politico-judiciaire, à l’exception de René Kofjer, l’ex-chargé des relations publiques du Carlton.

Parmi les accusés lavés du soupçon de l’infamie, Hervé Franchois, le propriétaire de l’hôtel (enfin du fonds, les murs appartiennent à une autre personne). À 75 ans, l’homme revient aujourd’hui sous les feux de l’actualité. Il vient, en effet, de revendre discrètement son affaire à une toute jeune société créée à cet effet : Hôtel Carlton Investissements. Selon nos informations, c’est le cabinet lillois B2M (Bordeyne, Marchand, Martinot), spécialiste régional de la cession de fonds de commerce dans l’hôtellerie et la restauration, qui a négocié la cession du 4 étoiles, dont la belle façade de style haussmannien domine la place du Théâtre. La transaction serait de 3,5 millions d’euros. « Un prix logique compte tenu de la notoriété du lieu et de son emplacement », estime un professionnel de l’immobilier. L’ensemble du personnel a naturellement (c’est la loi) été repris par le nonveau propriétaire. À la tête d’Hôtel Carlton Investissements, Miguel Toulemonde, son jeune PDG, entend faire rapidement des travaux pour rafraîchir l’établissement et ses 59 chambres. En attendant, l’hôtel va faire le plein à l’occasion de l’Euro de foot, qui commence ce vendredi.
Ironie de l’histoire, DSK n’y a jamais mis les pieds
Voilà donc l’un des fleurons de l’hôtellerie lilloise reparti pour une nouvelle aventure. Rasé pendant la guerre 14-18, le bâtiment avait revu le jour quelques années plus tard et un hôtel y avait ouvert ses portes en 1933 sous l’égide de la Société hôtelière du Nord. En 1951, la société avait fusionné avec le Café Jean et le Carlton y avait vu le jour.
Les tourments de 2011 sont évidemment loin derrière. Mais il faut quand même rappeler ici une vérité : jamais DSK n’a mis les pieds au Carlton de Lille. En revanche, d’autres célébrités y sont venues par dizaines."
