 < "It was built from the beginning with the help of the monks of Saint Bertin Abbey Saint Omer, decimators of the parish.
Still marked by Romanesque Art and Gothic Art, the building is of basilical structure. It consists of three nave ships, and low sides, a salient transept whose cross carries the bell tower, and a vast choir with aisles and side chapels.
The Saint John the Baptist Church was partially destroyed by fire during the German offensive on Dunkirk in May 1940.
The Nave Romane, transept and the tower with chimes were restored and inaugurated in 1962. The Gothic choir is then separated from the Romanesque part by a wall. It is only 60 years later, in 2008 that the choir opens to visitors.
Indeed, as part of a Public Order, the English Artist, Sir Anthony Caro thinks a work for the place: "The Chorus of Light", wanted as a chapel of hope.
The Church has another treasure: "The Shrine of Our Lady". This one was, in 1383, during the war of 100 years at the origin of a miracle. In fact, Breton mercenaries forced the door of the Church; one of them saw the statue. Seeing that it is wood and not gold as he believed, he strikes it violently with his dagger. The statue began to bleed, the bells rang and the soldier fell dead.
Paintings relating this miracle are also visible behind the Chassa.
In the Gothic choir, 3 large windows, funded by the Association of Friends of Saint John the Baptist, retrace the life of the Patron Saint of the Parish. "

In the past few days, scaffolding has been installed around the choir side of the church.

This regularly budgeted work on local finances will concern for this part the high windows of the church, left side, as well as the protection of the choir. In total, € 72,578 is devoted to the works of the year.
Knowing that the large windows of the facade, that of the left aisle, and protections on the left and right sides have already been made, it will remain for a future slice the six stained glass high right side, the large stained glass of the nave side is, as well as the large stained glass right side.
During the works, the church remains open as well as Anthony Caro's Choir of Light. "

 " Elle a été construite dès l'origine avec le concours des religieux de l'Abbaye Saint Bertin de Saint Omer, décimateurs de la paroisse.
Encore marqué par l'Art Roman et l'Art Gothique, l'édifice est de structure basilicale. Il est formé de 3 vaisseaux nef, et bas côtés, d'un transept saillant dont la croisée porte le clocher, et d'un vaste chœur à bas-côtés et chapelles latérales.

En effet, dans le cadre d'une Commande Publique, l'Artiste Anglais, Sir Anthony Caro pense une œuvre pour le lieu : "Le Chœur de lumière", voulu comme une chapelle d'espérance.
L'Eglise possède un autre trésor : "La Châsse de Notre-Dame". Celle-ci fut, en 1383, lors de la guerre de 100 ans à l'origine d'un miracle. En effet, des mercenaires bretons forcèrent la porte de l'Eglise ; l'un d'entre eux aperçu la statue. En s'apercevant que celle-ci est en bois et non en or comme il le croyait, il la frappe violemment avec sa dague. La statue se mit alors à saigner, les cloches à résonner et le soldat tomba raide mort.
Des peintures racontant ce miracle sont d'ailleurs visibles derrière la Châsse.
Dans le chœur gothique, 3 grands vitraux, financés par l'Association des Amis de Saint Jean-Baptiste, retracent la vie du Saint Patron de la Paroisse. "

Depuis quelques jours, des échafaudages ont été installés sur le pourtour de l’église, côté chœur.
"Ils vont servir aux ouvriers chargés de la rénovation et de la protection des vitraux.
Ces travaux régulièrement budgétés sur les finances locales vont concerner pour cette tranche les vitraux hauts de l’église, côté gauche, ainsi que la protection du chœur. Au total, 72 578 € sont consacrés aux travaux de l’année.
Sachant que les grands vitraux de la façade, celui de la nef côté gauche, et des protections sur les côtés gauche et droit ont déjà été réalisés, il restera pour une future tranche les six vitraux hauts côté droit, le grand vitrail de la nef côté est, ainsi que le grand vitrail côté droit.
Durant les travaux, l’église reste ouverte ainsi que le Chœur de lumière d’Anthony Caro."
