The Southern Bus Station is home base for buses travelling from Vientaine, the capital of the nation of Laos, to all destinations southern. As Vientiane is in the north of the nation there are many towns and villages within reach. International buses also depart to Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
The station is busy and has several food places, a dozen or so market stalls, and hawkers selling this and that. The main entrance leads directly to the ticket counters. Buy your ticket and then past the counters to the bus bays at the rear of the station. Tickets can also be purchased from guest houses, hotels, and tourist spots along the Mekong River (the tourist area of Vientiane). This is an easier and surer option than buying a ticket at the station. There is little English spoken here, but just say the name of your destination, you will be shown times printed on paper, then make your selection. Destination signs are in English and. Good luck.
