"Having lost his chapel in a fire, the parish of Affringues still had the project to raise a new one.
In 1903, the parish priest Louis Émile Boutoille obtained Vidor, parents of Julia, his servant at the presbytery of Bayenghem-lès-Seninghem, to give him a piece of their land, at the foot of the Monts d'Affringues, in order to build a replica of the grotto of Lourdes.
The work begins in June 1903, and the solemn blessing of the chapel takes place on Sunday, September 27 next, in the presence of 400 people.
In 1929, for the festivities of August 15, when the procession then gathered more than 300 faithful, the cave is restored and rejuvenated. The paintings are redone and a new pavement is laid. "
