Way back in 1836, in England, a part of Australia was declared (by William IV) to be the Province of South Australia, and a Governor (Rear-Admiral John Hindmarsh) was appointed. With potential settlers and officials they set sail from England in nine ships. While they initially landed on Kangaroo Island (off of Cape Jervis), it wasn't until they moved to Holdfast Bay on 28th December 1936 that the Province of South Australia was officially proclaimed.
