The Halsey Cottage was built circa 1860 by It was built by Egbert W. Halsey for his own use in the 1860s. In 1869, he built the first public school in Kirkwood. The house a small frame one-and-a-half story Carpenter Gothic Vernacular cottage. The house has gingerbread trim around the front porch. The house was purchased by Edwin Rode in 1903 and the Rode family owned the house until 1971. The house was purchased by the YMCA in 1974 and is currently used as their Club 44.
