This headstone is made of stone or concrete, with a paint or plaster coat given to it. The inscription reads:
Chester E.
Son of J.C. & P.V. Curry
Died
Dec 16, 1895
Aged.11.Y.11.M.26.D
Four things are depicted on each side of the cap. One is a lamb, generally a symbol placed on a headstone for a child, denoting innocence and youth. The second is a finger pointing towards Heaven. The third and fourth are doves, and while they don't carry olive branches, one carries a banner that reads "At Rest", and the other carries an oak branch with a leaf and acorn. The dove with the banner pairs off with the finger pointing upwards, noting the peace and tranquility in the afterlife. The family probably didn't consider it, but the acorn is more symbolic of life and rebirth, the leaf noting fall and the coming winter. Maybe the acorn will survive the winter and yield life, maybe it will find its way into the belly of a squirrel.
