The marble sculptor made a typo on the epitaph when he created the Woodmen of the World monument for A.W. Reynolds, in historic Payne Springs Cemetery, Payne Springs, TX.

Everything is fine on the front of the monument, which is a standard Woodmen of the World tree trunk, with an inscription scroll hanging from a rope from one of the sawn off limbs. The inscription reads:

A.W. Reynolds

Born
July 23, 1877;
Died
Nov. 2, 1902.

A piece of bark peels back to reveal:

Erected by the
Woodmen of
the World
Payne Springs
Camp No. 1109.

Under the family name, "Reynolds" on the reverse plinth, is an epitaph, with a typographical error where the sculptor should have inscribed "Cherished":

Although he doth sleep his memory doth live
And cherised comfort to his mourners give.
