Originally "The Mucky Duck" was a quaint tea house known as "The Gulf View Inn", and sat approximately 300 feet west of its current location but had to be moved inland due to constant beach erosion and shifting sands. As time went by the inn was eventually closed and turned into a beach house. In 1975 it was purchase by two entrepreneurs who planned to utilize it as a beach front rental property. While obtaining the necessary permits from the county they discovered an expired beer and wine license and decided to make it a pub. So in January of 1976 they opened it as "The Mucky Duck" a name they got from England.
Today "The Mucky Duck" is the first and only english style pub located on Captiva Island with beach front dining.
