As I was driving down Pottstown Pike on autumn morning, the Beth Israel Congregation caught my eye so I drove into the parking area and found a very unexpected surprise. Behind this very modern looking synagogue sits an Eagle Scout project, which involved the revitalization of an existing Holocaust memorial. So I began taking pictures and when I came home to log my Waymarks, I found another surprise about this Congregation in the Wikipedia article. This congregation was one of the first to hire a woman rabbi in 1979. Not only was Rabbi Holtzman one of the first women, she was also one of the first gay women rabbis although her congregation had not been aware of that at the time of her hiring.
