David Altmejd

Né à Montréal en 1974, David Altmejd obtient son baccalauréat de l’Université du Québec à Montréal en 1998 et sa maîtrise en beaux-arts de l’université Columbia (New York) en 2001. Il participe à la 8e Biennale d’Istanbul en 2003, à la Biennale du Whitney en 2004, à la première édition de la Triennale d’art québécois, tenue au Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MACM) en 2008. Il représente le Canada à la 52e Biennale de Venise en 2007 et reçoit en 2009 le prix Sobey. Plusieurs musées canadiens et étrangers ont acquis des œuvres de lui, notamment le MACM, le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, le Musée des beaux-arts de l’Ontario, le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Les Abattoirs de Toulouse, le Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum de New York, le Whitney Museum of American Art de New York, le Museum of Contemporary Art de Los Angeles et le MUDAM Luxembourg (Musée d’art moderne Grand-Duc Jean). En 2015, Altmejd est fait Compagnon des arts et des lettres du Québec et le MCAM tient une importante rétrospective de son œuvre. David Altmejd vit et travaille à New York.

David Altmejd

Born in Montreal in 1974, David Altmejd obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1998 and a master of fine arts degree from New York’s Columbia University in 2001. His work was shown at the 8th Istanbul Biennial in 2003, the Whitney Biennial in 2004, and the first edition of the Quebec Triennial, held at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MACM) in 2008. He represented Canada at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007 and was the recipient of the 2009 Sobey Art Award. A number of museums both in Canada and abroad have acquired his works for their collections, including the MACM, National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Ontario, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Les Abattoirs, Toulouse, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Whitney Museum of American Art, both in New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and MUDAM (Musée d’art moderne Grand-Duc Jean) Luxembourg. In 2015, Altmejd was named a Companion of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec and the MACM held a major retrospective of his work. David Altmejd lives and works in New York.
