AO0559 - PAWNEE METHODIST CHURCH SPIRE - Pawnee, TX - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

As described by the CGS in 1952:

"LOCATED IN THE CENTRAL PART OF PAWNEE, 0.1 MILE WEST OF THE JUNCTION OF FARM ROADS 673 AND 758. STATION IS THE TOP-CENTER OF THE SHARP POINTED SPIRE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE SMALL, FRAME CHURCH BUILDING. THE SPIRE IS ABOUT 25 FEET HIGH."

The CGS description of the spire -- including overall shape and height -- is still correct, and so are its street references. The benchmark in question -- its top and center -- is also still there as described.

The NGS' currently posted coordinates ("N 28 39 09.95073 W 098 00 14.44007", or "N 28° 39.166 W 098° 00.241") were in line with my observations while on site.

The station was recovered in 'decent' condition: it's definitely still there, but seems to have slanted a bit towards the North... so the posted NGS coordinates may be very slightly off-mark.
