AO0557 - PAWNEE CATHOLIC CHURCH CUPOLA - Pawnee, TX - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

As described by the CGS in 1952:

"LOCATED IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROUTE 72 AND FARM ROAD 673 IN PAWNEE. THE BELFRY HAS A HEMISPHERICAL TOP PAINTED RED AND SURMOUNTED BY A WHITE CROSS. IT IS ON THE EAST END OF THE STUCCO CHURCH BUILDING AND IS ABOUT 40 FEET HIGH. THE TOP-CENTER OF THE CUPOLA WAS THE POINT OBSERVED ON."

The CGS description of the cupola -- including overall shape and height -- is still correct, and so are its street references. The benchmark in question -- its top and center -- is also still there as described.

The NGS' currently posted coordinates ("N 28 39 28.38554 W 098 00 13.19613", or "N 28° 39.473 W 098° 00.220") were in line with my observations while on site.

The station was recovered in good condition.
