Radical abolitionist Abel Brown became the minister of this church in 1841. See the web site listed below.

The Sand Lake Baptist Church began as the Union Church building back in 1805. In 2004, an historical marker with the text cited below was erected on site by the Sand Lake Historical Society. In that same year, the building was added to the national register of historical places.
