Green Gables Heritage Place is now a National Historic Place created around Green Gables, the house and grounds which inspired the novel "Anne of Green Gables". Behind the visitor centre is the farmstead on which Lucy Maud lived nearly all of her pre adult life.
We visited the site in 2015 and understand that it is being redeveloped as of 2018, so it may look somewhat different than it did when we visited.

Green Gables Heritage Place
Arguably Canada’s most notable literary landmark, Green Gables is the setting for the beloved 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables, the global sensation about a young orphan living in an idyllic Prince Edward Island village. The original green-gabled farmhouse, which inspired author Lucy Maud Montgomery more than a century ago, has been carefully restored to reflect the period, right down to the furnishings in the rooms.
Visitors to the National Historic site can tour the house, where guides are on hand to answer questions, and even meet Anne herself, portrayed by an actress wearing red braids. Outside, trails like the book’s legendary Lover’s Lane lead into the surrounding woodlands.
Meanwhile, regular demonstrations evoke farm life more than a century ago. Learn to make ice cream or enjoy a Sunday picnic complete with potato sack races. Canada’s literary history comes alive at Green Gables Heritage Place.
