Corner Gas is a Canadian television sitcom created by Brent Butt. The series ran for six seasons from 2004 to 2009. Deriving its name from the roadside gas station in the fictional town of Dog River, Saskatchewan, Corner Gas is the only gas station for 60 kilometres (37 mi) in any direction. The series completed its run following broadcast of its sixth season on April 13, 2009, with a total of 107 episodes. The show averaged a million viewers per episode. Corner Gas received six Gemini Awards, and was nominated almost 70 times for various awards. Corner Gas was filmed entirely in Saskatchewan. The interior shots (Ruby Cafe interior, Police Department, Oscar and Emma's house, etc.) were filmed at Canada/Saskatchewan Production Studios in Regina. All the outdoor scenes and all scenes that take place in the gas station were filmed on location in Rouleau, Saskatchewan. Rouleau is a small town on Highway 39 between Moose Jaw and Weyburn. The grain elevator was repainted to read "Dog River" instead of "Rouleau"

In real life the grain elevator in Rouleau stands facing Saskatchewan Highway 39, less than 500 feet from the location of "Corner Gas" and "Ruby's Cafe", set buildings that were constructed at the intersection of Saskatchewan Highway 39 and 1st Avenue on the edge of the town. The location was chosen no doubt because of the wide open expanses that are so often captures in scenes from the show, but also for the proximity to the grain elevator, a symbol of the Canadian prairies. Building the set close to the grain elevator ensured that it would appear in many of the outdoor scenes.

In fact, the grain elevator appears within the first 10 seconds of the first episode of the show, where we see a car pulling up to the gas pumps at Corner Gas. Hank is seen sitting in front of the store, and a couple of seconds later Brent comes up to serve the customer, who remarks to Brent how flat the province is. This leads to an exchange of sarcastic humour between Brent and Hank, and thus begins one of the most popular comedy sit-com in Canadian television history. The elevator is also visible in the opening credits (along with the entire cast) for every episodes, making it one only three buildings to appear in the airing of every episode, the other two being the Corner Gas and Ruby's Cafe buildings.

The elevators even become the point of conversation of a short segment in Season 1 Episode 9, where Lacey encounters two old-timers near the corner of Main Street and Weckman Dr. The two are discussing the grain elevator, which Lacey overhears and asks them about:
Old-timer 1 to Old-timer 2: "Hear about the old grain elevator"
Old-timer 2 to Old-timer 1: "Yeah I hear they're knocking her down"
Old-timer 1 to Old-timer 2: "Been here almost 70 years"
Old-timer 2 to Old-timer 1: "Well, I suppose that's just another way the town's changing"
Lacey to Old-timers: "Excuse me, did I just hear you say they're tearing down the grain elevator?"
Old-timer 2 to Lacey: "No. I said their knocking it down"
Old-timer 1 sarcastically to Lacey: "Snoopy McGoo"
two Old-timers turn and start walking away from Lacey and towards the grain elevator
Old-timer 2 to Old-timer 1: "There was a time when you could walk down the street, and nobody would talk to you!"

The elevator also gets plenty of screen time in Season 3 Episode 6, where Brent goes on vacation to "tropical countries" but in reality is sitting in a lawn chair in front of the gas station, in full view of the elevator:
