The top part of this stained grey headstone is for Sarah Kate Williss, the mother of Clifford (who died 21 November, 1885, aged only 23 years). Below a poignant poem for the Mother, is the following inscription for Clifford:

CLIFFORD,
Beloved Son of the above
- Accidentally Killed -
Septr. 24, 1903. Aged 16 Years.

'The Register', and Adelaide newspaper, of Tuesday 29 September, 1903 (page 6) has the following article:

"A GUN FATALITY. RAPID BAY,
September 28.
A sad accident happened on Thursday last at the Yoho Station woolshed, which resulted in the death of Clifford Williss, the 16-year-old son of Mr. B. G. Wiliiss. of Bullaparinga. The lad accidentally shot himself through the heart with a bullet from a .22 Winchester rifle. It is presumed that he forgot the weapon was loaded, and was in the act of separating the barrel from the stock in order to clean the former, when the charge exploded. He left home to go rabbitting with his cousins, but, failing to meet them, went by himself. The fact that he did not return that evening caused no anxiety, as the lad was in the habit of spending the night with his uncle, Mr. John Williss, of Rapid Bay. On Friday, the boy's father sent word for him to return, and got a reply from his brother that he was not there. A search for the poor lad was made at once by many willing helpers taking part, and his body was found at about 6 p.m."
