The fountain, built by Hiroshima Bank, was donated to the city of Hiroshima in November 1964.

At that time, the fountain was said to be the most beautiful fountain in western Japan. In the pond, spanning 27 m from east to west and 19 m from south to north, 567 fountain jets throw 11 tons of water per minute at a height of 10 meters.

At night, the fountain is illuminated by 153 underwater lights of red, blue, yellow, green and milk-white color.
