The family name,"Eldridge", is on the bottom of the headstone, near the base. A floral medallion is at the top on each side, and a set of clasped hands is on the front panel, which reads:
Thomas
Eldridge
Born
April 19, 1831,
Died
Sept. 30, 1889.
On the reverse is this epitaph, a curiosity:
Weep not that her
toils are over,
Weep not that her
race is run,
God grant we may
rest as calmly
When our work like
hers is done.
-----
The epitaph is referring to a woman, and Mr. Eldridge certainly was not one! Unless this is a serious mistake, one might suppose that the epitaph refers to Mrs. Elridge (Charlotte), who is listed on Findagrave but for whom there is no headstone photo. There are several unmarked graves in the same row, so it's possible that she is buried with her husband.
