Das Jakobskreuz steht auf 1456 m über dem Meeresspiegel auf dem Gipfel der Buchensteinwand. Erbaut wurde das Jakobskreuz 2014. Es bildet mit seiner Höhe von 29,6 Meter eine weithin sichtbare Landmarke. Es ist das größte begehbare Gipfelkreuz der Welt. Die verschiedenen Etagen mit Ausstellungsräumen und Aussichtsplattformen mit Panoramaverglasung können über eine Treppe und einen Aufzug erreicht werden. Nur die Aussichtsplattform auf dem Dach ist nicht mit dem Fahrstuhl erreichbar.
Sowohl aus dem Kreuz selbst, als auch vom Dach des Kreuzes, hat man eine grandiose Aussicht über die Kitzbühler Alpen, die Loferer Steinberge, die Leoganger Steinberge, Hochfilzen, Fieberbrunn und das Skigebiet von Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Bei guter Sicht sieht man den Großvenediger, das Kitzsteinhorn und den Großglockner sowie den zugehörigen Alpenhauptkamm.
An der Bergstation gibt es eine Gastronomie mit einer reichen Auswahl an deftigem Essen und Getränken
Das Kreuz kann auf zwei Arten erreicht werden:
- Die erste und einfachste Möglichkeit ist die Nutzung der Bergbahn (Sessellift). Karten für die Fahrt (nur Bergfahrt, nur Talfahrt oder Berg- und Talfahrt) inklusive Eintritt für das Jakobskreuz können an der Talstation beim Parkplatz (siehe Koordinaten) gekauft werden.
- Die zweite Möglichkeit ist, auf den Gipfel zu wandern. Start der Wanderung (mittelschwer; roter Bergweg) ist dann im Ort St. Jakob in Haus und nicht an den im Listing angegebenen Parkplatzkoordinaten. Die Wanderung zum Gipfel dauert ca. 2 Stunden. Achtung: Vor der Anfahrt bitte die Öffnungszeiten der Bergbahn, des Jakobskreuz und der Gastronomie prüfen (siehe Link unter Opening times and fees). Die Öffnungszeiten variieren je nach Jahreszeit.

The Jakobskreuz stands at 1456 m above sea level on the top of the Buchensteinwand. It was built in 2014. With its height of 29.6 meters, it forms a landmark that can be seen from afar. It is the largest accessible summit cross in the world. The various floors with showrooms and panoramic windows can be reached via a staircase and a lift. Only the observation deck on the roof is not accessible by elevator.
Both from the cross itself, as well as from the roof of the cross, one has a magnificent view over the Kitzbühel Alps, the Loferer Steinberge, the Leogang Steinberge, Hochfilzen, Fieberbrunn and the ski area of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. On a clear day you can see the Großvenediger, the Kitzsteinhorn and the Grossglockner as well as the associated main Alpine ridge.
At the mountain station there is a restaurant with a rich selection of hearty food and drinks
The cross can be reached in two ways:
- The first and easiest option is the use of the cableway. Tickets for the journey (only uphill, only downhill or uphill and downhill) including entrance for the Jakobskreuz can be bought at the valley station by the parking lot (see coordinates).
- The second option is to hike to the summit. Starting point of the hike (medium difficulty, red mountain path) is then the small town of St. Jakob in Haus and not the parking area indicated in the listing.
