For any non Canadians, or Canadians totally lacking a television or a sense of humor and are therefore unable to find Dog River on any map, I'll explain:

You see, Dog River exists in essentially the same physical space as does Rouleau, SK., but does so in a different dimension.

Actually, Rouleau, or Dog River, is the home of "Corner Gas", one of the absolute best sitcoms ever aired. Unfortunately, (sob, sob) it ran only six seasons, but it remains in reruns on the comedy channel and on various other channels from time to time.

The town of Rouleau is a little farming town, with one remaining grain elevator. The Rouleau Post Office actually opened in 1895, in the North West Territories, a good 10 years before Saskatchewan was created. It was incorporated as a village on July 23, 1903. The present population is just over 450, and headed for 500.

Dog River, or Rouleau, suffered a tragedy in September of 2014, when one of the buildings often seen on the program, the "Foo Mar t" burned down. It was on main street across from a large brick building used on the program as the "Cop Shop". CTV News supplies a few more details below.

Across the street from the coordinates given will put one in front of "The Stoop" coffee shop on main street. If the building looks familiar, it's where Karen and Davis hung out. When visiting Dog River, er Rouleau, this is the place to stop, as they are the local "Corner Gas" historians, gift shop, etc. It's where you go to get your corner gas T shirts, coffee mugs, ball caps and whatnots.

Fire burns down former
'Corner Gas' building
The Canadian Press | Monday, September 29, 2014
A building made famous by the hit television series "Corner Gas" about small-town Saskatchewan life burned to the ground on Sunday night.

Grant Clarke, mayor of the small town of Rouleau where the former CTV comedy was filmed, said hundreds of people watched as flames engulfed the building.

The structure was used as the local supermarket Foo Mar T in the show that featured the fictional town of Dog River. It had become home to a business manufacturing orthopedics.

Clarke said the fire was reported around 5 p.m. as 180 people attended an anniversary party at the nearby town hall. "Someone came in and said there's smoke coming out of the adjoining business," said Clarke.

The fire had grown quickly by the time emergency crews arrived. "By that time, there was too much smoke and heat. Really they weren't able to get into the building."...

Residents of the 500-person town who weren't at the party also came out to see what was going on. "When the fire alarm went, they ran down as well," said Clarke, who added that his first reaction was one of disbelief.

One of the questions will be whether the business owner wants to rebuild, the mayor suggested...

There's no word yet on what caused the blaze.

Brent Butt, the show's creator and star, acknowledged the fire on Twitter. "Okàso apparently the building that played the old Foo Mar T on Corner Gas has burned down in Rouleau, SK. Hope no one was hurt," he tweeted.

Clarke said crews were waiting Monday for the fire marshal to arrive before they started the cleanup. "The building is completely gone."
