This park is located at 130 E. Main in the former location of the Main Hotel, which was destroyed May 5, 1960 by a tornado. It was opened in 2007. Across the front of the park is a dedicated brick wall and arch. The small park includes several benches and trees dedicated to men and women who contributed to Wilburton's growth over the years. The park is pleasant place to stop, eat lunch, and ponder the history and heritage of the town of Wilburton.
At the south end of the park area is a photo of the former Wilburton High School, with its history and a portion of the columns which stood at its entrance. Wilburton has a multi-ethnic history and the Goldberg and Joseph families have contributed mightily over the years.
A dedicated plaque on the front wall reads:
The Goldberg & Joseph Heritage
Park is dedicated to the memory
of the people of many nationalities
and faiths: Italians, Polish, Irish,
Lithuanians, Germans, Russians,
Jewish, Catholics, Protestants
and many more, who came to thislittle corner of southeastern Indian
Territory and settled what would
become the city of Wilburton. Our
hope is that the many people who
spend time here would recognize the
heritage of our people and ponder the
future of our children.
