Robert W. Service was a much-loved northern poet and author of "Songs of a Sourdough". He was born in England and came to Canada at age 21, wandering up and down the coast of North America and working a variety of jobs. Originally a bank clerk, he returned to banking and was sent to Whitehorse in 1904. This was where he wrote what would become his most enduring works.
