1880 - 1890
"Hansard exists, not for the legislator alone but, in a real sense, for the nation".
This memorial plaque commemorates the establishment of the Hansard Reporting Branch as an integral part of the service of the House of Commons.
Also commemorated are those by whose efforts the impartial reporting of debates came into being, as well as all who wrote shorthand in the cause of their country during the first one hundred years of Hansard's service to the House of Commons.

Free tickets must be obtained to visit this commemorative Hansard plaque. All visits to Parliament are offered free of charge. Tickets for guided tours and the Peace Tower and Memorial Chamber are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cette plaque commémore l’intégration de la Division des comptes rendus des Débats aux services de la Chambre des Communes.
Elle rend également hommage aux premiers artisans d’un compte rendu objectifs des Débats, ainsi qu’a tous les sténographes qui ont oeuvré pour le pays au cours du premier siècle du Hansard.
