In Cambridge, on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus, is this modern memorial dedicated to Sean Collier, an officer in the MIT Police who lost his life while on duty.

The memorial located next to Vassar Street, near the intersection with Main Street.

The memorial is an organically shaped structure in a plaza, made of dark stone. There are five extensions, each hollowed out. At the base is the following text:

"In the Line of Duty
Sean Collier April 13, 2013"

From the web page on the MIT web site about the memorial:

"The memorial is composed of thirty-two solid blocks of granite that form a five-way stone vault. Each block supports the other to create a central, covered space for reflection. Inspired by the gesture of an open hand, the memorial’s shallow stone vault is buttressed by five radial walls, which extend outward toward the campus. The ovoid space at the center of the radial walls creates a passage, a marker, and an aperture that reframes the site. . .

. . . Carved into the south-facing wall is an epitaph from Sean’s brother’s eulogy, “Live long like he would. Big hearts, big smiles, big service, all love.” Clusters of honey locust trees create a living canopy above the solid stone structure to mark the passage of time. In contrast, point lights set into the pavers permanently inscribe the constellation of stars in the sky the night of April 18th, 2013. . . "

The page also states:
"Design: Professor J. Meejin Yoon
Architect of Record: Höweler + Yoon Architecture LLP (Eric Höweler, Yoonhee Cho, Paul Cattaneo, Sungwoo Jang)"

Wikipedia has a page on the Boston Marathon Bombing, with a short paragraph on the event that involved Sean Collier:

". . . the Tsarnaev brothers shot Sean A. Collier of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department six times in an attempt to steal his gun, which they could not get out because of the holster's retention system. Collier, aged 27, was seated in his police car near the Stata Center (Building 32) on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus. He died soon after. . ."
