Roermond is a Dutch city with about 58,000 inhabitants near the German border. Its origin goes back to Roman settlements. The founding of the city, however, is determined by the granting of the sealing right in 1232.
Roermond became known supraregional through the construction of the
McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. Since 2001, visitors from the Netherlands and Germany have flocked to the shopping mall; Downtown Roemond is also benefiting from it and has seen an upswing since.
On the occasion of the 750th anniversary celebrations in 1982, a bronze plaque was erected commemorating the founding of the city. It has a diameter of almost one meter and shows the most important historical buildings of the city: the
town hall, the church
Munsterkerk, the bridge
Maria Theresiabrug as well as the
music pavilion. The plaque was placed on the minster plaza at the backside of the Munsterkerk.
