Not a lot has been found for the service of Captain Owen Cairns, but he is mentioned as supervising the target practise shooting of balloons, on the HMAS Sydney, on the voyage to Vietnam. [ex-7RAR website: Robert Hughes. The brass plaque is on a 1.4 metre cemented stone memorial wall, in The Yankalilla Memorial Park, near the centre of the small rural town of Yankalilla. The plaque reads:
