The City of Edmond flag is fairly simple, a white field with the city seal in the middle. The seal, the winner of a citywide contest in 1965, has pictures aimed at depicting the history and cultural heritage of Edmond - a steam engine and oil derrick, a covered wagon symbolizing the Land Run of 1889, the Old North Tower at the University of Central Oklahoma and a white cross.
There has been some controversy over the cross on the flag. Some people want it removed. The question has even gone as far as being presented to the US Supreme Court, which declined to rule. Now, the right panel of the seal is blank.
