text "The Plant Kingdom Strikes Back In a stunning reversal of the norm, pitcher plants actually trap and "eat" a variety of insects and other small creatures. The nutrients obtained from their prey help insure the survival of these plants in a nutrient-starved bog environment. Attracted by reddish veins and nectar glands, insects are lured into the hollow liquid-filled leaves that create the perfect trap."
