Door de onthulling van een gedenksteen op de hoek van de Bemelerweg en de Willem-Alexanderstraat beschikt het dorp over een herinnering aan onze bevrijding. Op nagenoeg dezelfde plek waar op 13 september 1944 de Amerikaanse militair Albert Strahle Jr. sneuvelde, verrees een monument ter herinnering aan deze gebeurtenis.
Er is gekozen voor een monument in de vorm van een grote kei waarop een gedenkplaat met toelichting is aangebracht. Dat gekozen is voor een grote kei had verschillende redenen. Elke kei is uniek; gevormd door de natuur is ieder exemplaar anders van vorm en omvang. Het is een natuurproduct dat past in het Limburgse landschap. Daarbij komt nog het element van duurzaamheid en de geringe onderhoudskosten. Dat juist deze kei werd uitgekozen heeft alles te maken met zijn ‘litteken’. Over de steen loopt namelijk een band, gevormd door een afwijkende samenstelling van het gesteente. Dit ‘litteken’ symboliseert de dood van Albert Strahle Jr.

By the unveiling of a memorial stone on the corner of the Bemelerweg and the Willem-Alexanderstraat, the village has a memory of our liberation. At almost the same spot where on 13 September 1944 the American soldier Albert Strahle Jr. died, a monument erected in memory of this event.
A monument has been chosen in the form of a large boulder on which a memorial plaque has been placed. That chosen for a large boulder had several reasons. Every boulder is unique; formed by nature, each copy is different in form and size. It is a natural product that fits in the Limburg landscape. In addition, there is the element of sustainability and the low maintenance costs. That this boulder was chosen has everything to do with his 'scar'. A band is formed over the stone, formed by a deviating composition of the rock. This 'scar' symbolizes the death of Albert Strahle Jr.
