Heigne, once named" Hunia Castellum "was a place of pilgrimage. It is the veneration of the people of the area to the Virgin of Heigne that we owe the construction in the 12th century of a large church in full middle of the small hamlet of 40 to 50 inhabitants.
In the 13th century, the monks of Lobbes built a Priory on the foundations of the old fort of Heigne and enlarged the Church.
The procession dedicated to him continued but was gradually dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene.
