This one-acre pocket park dates back to 1971 when it was a garden project for the Kanata-March Horticultural Society. In 1975, a sundial was dedicated to the memory of society member Dr J R Ballantyne. The sundial is in bad shape. The park has one bench, which is also getting old. That bench is dedicated to Joyce Arrowsmith, a founding member of the horticultural society. In 2018, the Tom Thomson Garden Restoration project hopes to return the park to its former glory. Posted co-ordinates are for the old park sign.
The park is named for Tom Thomson (1877-1917), a famous Canadian artist. Other artists, many from the Group of Seven, are commemorated in the community through place names such as Varley Park, Lawren Harris Park, Carmichael Court, Holgate Court, Lismer Crescent, and Alfred Casson Way.
