The lettering and date were obviously added after the construction of the building and are not part of the original construction. The date listed on the building doesn't match what is documented in the National Register Application.

An unusually intact example of late Victorian commercial architecture, this building represents the earliest contributing property in the district. The 1-part commercial block building located west of the courthouse facing Texas Heroes Square features a raised brick parapet, central recessed entrance, and stilted brick arches on side entries. The building retains its original storefront with transoms above the windows and sawtooth and corbelled brick detailing in the facade. A good example of a Main Street rehabilitation, the interior also retains its original wooden balconies.
