Originally built as a memorial; The main entrance columns are memorial to World War I and World War II.
City park at one time included the Fairgrounds, so the main part, with the auditorium and municipal pool were called by locals Main Park, and the other: Fairgrounds.
Also, back then the local Lions Club had their park, which included a large lake..so it was Lions Lake Park.
Today, City Park, and Main Park, are still much the same. The Lions have let go of their park and it is now run by the city and called: Washington Lions Lake Park. It now also includes the Fairgrounds...and is being re-maned to: Bernie E. Hillermann Park.
