This Quonset Hut dates back to 1941, when several hundred acres were purchased in January 1941 to construct a training airport for new aviators who were not qualified to use the increasingly busy Lambert Field in St. Louis. Today this building is in use by the military as Hangar 38. However they are pretty casual about security on my visit and when I said I was photographing Quonset Huts they just waved me through the gate.
