Aged 17 years. Lived in Furlong, was killed in an automobile accident near Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, where he had attended classes since 2005. He was the beloved son of Nan and Tom Ballay. Cole attended Buckingham Elementary School and Holicong Middle School, prior to beginning his 9th grade classes at Germantown Academy. Cole was an outgoing and friendly individual, who always went out of his way to make others happy. He possessed a keen and unique sense of humor. Academically, he was bright, energetic and enthusiastic about his studies, which were often quite rigorous at Germantown Academy. In athletics, Cole was gifted with exceptional speed and he had several major achievements, while running with track teams from Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Holicong Middle School. He set records in the 100 and 200 yard dash and relay events. On two occasions, he was a member of teams which won the prestigious Penn Relays. On the soccer field, Cole was often described as simply "amazing". His blazing speed, coupled with incredible foot skills, outstanding field vision and anticipation, made him a formidable opponent whenever he stepped onto the field, and a joy to watch. Cole was also a great captain and team leader, often inspiring others to improve their performance. His passion for life will be missed by many. Cole played with teams at the highest level throughout the US and twice in Italy, which included several regional champions and a finalist in national competition. Most recently, he had been playing up age-wise on the new Player Development Academy (NJ) Under 18 Team. He was being seriously considered for several major Division 1 College Soccer programs.
