The top-center of Campbellton's old water tower -- located at the western edge of a rural South Texas town -- is an NGS benchmark ("AO0567").

As described by the CGS in 1952:
"LOCATED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CAMPBELLTON AT THE CITY WATER WORKS. STATION IS THE SMALL CYLINDRICAL TANK SUPPORTED BY FOUR STEEL LEGS. IT IS ABOUT 75 FEET HIGH. THE TOP-CENTER OF THE TANK WAS OBSERVED ON."
The CGS description is reasonably accurate. altough the tank is actually on the WEST side of that town, by the old "CITY WATER WORKS" (whose signage can still be seen on the tank itself). From the main "Alt-281" thoroughfare, just drive on San Antonio Rd once in town and you can't miss it.
The NGS' currently posted coordinates ("N 28° 44.766 W 098° 18.342") are probably correct... I could not get all the way to the bottom of the tank.
The station was recovered in POOR condition.
