Chatham marina was once part of Chatham docks which closed in the latter part of the 20th century. No.1 basin is now a marina for many boats and yachts. Entrance to the marina is via a lock gate from the tidal River Medway. Over the top of this lock is a road bridge, used by vehicles and pedstrians.
The bridge is a drawbridge type and is lifted by hydraulic rams either side of the structure.
