Dr Faraday, a psychiatrist, is called to Hundreds Hall in 1947 to see a maid, Betty. Hundreds Hall is owned by Rederick Ayres, a disfigured RAF veteran, and is shared with his elderly mother and daughter Caroline. Roderick tells Dr Faraday that there is a supernatural force in the house. Roderick later sets fire to his room and is committed to an asylum. Dr Faraday decides to care for the Ayres family and becomes romantically involved with Caroline. Supernatural activity starts in the house which leads to the death of Mrs Ayres and later Caroline.
